Medicare Advantage Part C

Okay, you've signed up for Original Medicare (Parts A & B) and have learned that Parts A & B do not cover everything. And, you will owe 20% of each bill with no limit or cap.

Two plan options will help you cover what Medicare A & B won't cover. You only need one of these: Medicare Advantage Part C or Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap.) Let's focus on the Part C option here.

About Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C)

Federally contracted private insurance companies offer Medicare Advantage plans. Most of these plans combine Part A, B, and D, which help cover medications.

When Medicare Advantage Plans include Part D coverage (and most do), they're called MAPD. If not, they're called MA Plans.

With most Medicare Part C plans, you'll want to use in-network providers as much as possible, if not exclusively, whether you have an HMO or PPO. Let's quickly cover the slight differences between the two types.

HMO

Must select a primary care physician to coordinate care

Out-of-network care is not covered unless urgent or an emergency

PPO

Won't need to select a primary care physician, and you can access physicians out of the network

Your out-of-pocket costs will be higher if you choose out-of-network care

Brainstorm

Who is eligible for Medicare Part C?

  1. You must be entitled to Part A & enrolled in Part B
  2. You must live in the plan's service area

What does Medicare Part C cover?

The coverage depends on the specific plan because, unlike Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans, Medicare Advantage Plans are not standardized. We'll show you all of your Part C options in your area. But generally, in addition to the core benefits of Part A & B, it could offer added benefits that Medicare doesn't cover.

Medicare Advantage coverage adds another layer to securely enjoying your later years.

FAQs

Medicare Advantage Plans have a Maximum Out-of-Pocket limit and may include additional benefits that are not covered by Original Medicare.

In addition to drug coverage, general wellness and health management are also enhanced. As we mentioned before, out-of-pocket expenses decrease under the umbrella of covered services.

Testimonials

“The most important things for me personally were the Medicare supplemental and drug plans. Connie was extremely knowledgeable, and provided me with enough information for me to make the decision on my own - she didn’t make the decision for me. Connie was very professional, very patient, and she made me feel completely comfortable.”

“I can highly recommend Connie, that’s for sure! Connie was very helpful. She even came to my house and explained all the pros and cons. She helped me with all the forms, and referred me to a new doctor in Sonoma County (with whom I am very happy). I ended up with an extremely reasonable policy, with low premiums, low co-pay, and a very good choice of doctors - it’s all good!”

“Connie was so patient with me. She took care of all my questions for over an hour (and I’m 84 and hard of hearing!). I was so thankful to talk to her — I felt completely at ease as she led me through all the alternatives. She made it so that I didn’t have to travel over to San Francisco (I live in Berkeley), and now I can see any doctor in any city! Then she helped me with my payments, so I didn’t even have to write a check. I felt very satisfied with her!”
